Setting Opening Bank Balances

For each bank balance being migrated perform the following steps:

Obtain the current account balance for the bank account from the balance sheet in the client's current system. This should also match the opening balance in the bank account from balance sheet run at go-live date in Odoo.

Againt the bank an opening statement line should be created for the opening balance. The transcation date should be set to the go-live date and the desription/label set to "Opening Balance". 

TIP: If you have not linked the bank account for bank synchronisation you will need to click on "Manual Entry" to allow the opening transaction to be entered.

Once saved, you can go to the list view to link a statement to this transaction. The statement will need to be created and can be titled "Opening Balance".

Finally the transaction should be reconciled against the journal line created when the opening balance was cleared to the Outstanding Receipt Account. This will clear the Outstamding Receipt Account.

  • Run the balance sheet as at the go-live date and check that the bank balance matches the closing balance from the client's old ERP. The Outstanding Receipt Account should also be cleared.

  • Check the banks card from the dashboard and confirm the balance is correct. You can also run the Bank's Reconciliation report to ensure the balance is accurate.
