Tee'd up for the cloud: Woodford Golf Club's SharePoint migration
About Woodford Golf Club:
Woodford Golf Club is a well-established members' club located 1 km from the Woodford township, offering a quality golfing experience to the local community.
The challenge:
Woodford Golf Club's files were stored entirely on-premises, meaning staff could only access documents remotely through a VPN. For a club that doesn't always operate from a single desk, it is added friction and dependency that they wanted to move away from.
There was also no meaningful control over who could see what. Permissions were essentially non-existent. Anyone could access any file and there was no audit trail. From an information security standpoint, it was a situation the club realised they could not continue with.
The solution:
Before a single file moved, Netway visited the site to understand how the club operated. That on-site consultation covered how files should be organised, how new users would be granted access and what permissions framework would work best for the team. The solution was designed around Woodford Golf Club's actual processes and not a generic template.
The engagement also included a thorough data sanitisation process prior to migration: reviewing legacy files, determining what was still relevant and ensuring only clean, current data made the move to SharePoint. Getting that groundwork right before touching anything was a priority Netway set from the start.
From there, everything was migrated to SharePoint within a properly configured Microsoft 365 tenancy, giving the club's data a well-structured home in the cloud. Folder structures were built for ease of use, so staff could find what they needed without a steep learning curve.
The result:
For staff, the transition was seamless. Files are organised in a familiar way but everything now lives in the cloud and is accessible from anywhere with no VPN required. That flexibility has made a genuine difference to how the team works day to day and internal feedback has been positive.
There was no downtime during the migration. Operations continued without interruption throughout the entire process.
Information security is now in a significantly stronger position. Proper user permissions are in place, with full visibility over who is accessing what and when. This is a level of control and auditability the club simply didn't have before.
Working with Netway:
Several factors led to this partnership. Netway was willing to work on a project basis, rather than requiring a monthly contract and this suited where the club was at. Being a local provider also mattered and they made the effort early on to visit the club and understand the environment before recommending anything.
Netway's experience with SharePoint migrations provided confidence and their familiarity with the golf and club industry meant they understood the club's context without needing it explained from scratch.
Throughout the engagement, everything was tailored to Woodford Golf Club's way of operating. The technical team was patient and supportive, particularly when it came to helping staff get comfortable with the new setup. Attention to detail was evident at every stage and the project was delivered on time and within budget.
Netway stood out for a few reasons. They were willing to work with us on a project basis rather than pushing us into an ongoing contract, which was the right fit for our club at the time. Being local counted for a lot too and they came out to us early on, got a feel for how we operate and everything they recommended came from that understanding. The team was thorough, easy to work with and they got it done on time and on budget."
