Netway Communications is a wholly Australian owned company established in 1986 which specialises in the design and manufacture of customised Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) solutions for commercial and goverment fleet owners.
Netway Communications, together with JRD Communications, is the developer of the Netpath Automatic Vehicle Tracking and Mobile Data system. Netpath is sold and serviced by Netway-JRD, a joint venture between Netway and JRD.
The developing demand for ITS systems and services has been indentified as a major business opportunity consistent with the company's strategic direction to actively pursue the design, development and marketing of specialised products based on emerging communications and related technologies
Recent advances in digital data communications and the advent of the NAVSTAR satellite based Global Positioning System (GPS) have provided Netway with an opportunity to address market demands for Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) systems, and have led to the development of the Netpath system which utilises these technologies together with a custom Graphic Information System (GIS). The Netpath system is the primary outcome to date of Netway's product development effort, and has been positioned to fulfil a market requirement for reliable mission-critical vehicle tracking. Current development is aimed at lowering the end user cost of AVL systems.
Netway has developed strategic alliances with various parties in order to expand it's product development capability and facilitate marketing of it's products. The alliance with JRD Communications, Netway-JRD is particulary important since wireless communications, the area in which JRD has particular expertise, is vitally critical to the sucessful implementation of AVL systems.
Netway is involved in the emerging ITS industry and was one of the first commercial members of Intelligent Transport Systems Australia (ITSA), a group founded by organisations including Vic Roads, Telstra, and the RACV to encourage development of an Australian Intelligent Transport Systems industry.
